Experience

Since 2002, Julie has focused her practice on advancing Treaty and Aboriginal rights through the courts and negotiations. She has experience representing First Nations on Treaty and Aboriginal rights and consultation matters before the courts and regulatory tribunals, as well as assisting with the preparation and negotiation of Specific Claims. Julie has acted or assisted on a variety of litigation matters relating to breach of Treaty, breach of fiduciary duty, Section 35 consultation and accommodation, Treaty hunting and fishing rights, and governance issues. Julie clerked for Mr. Justice W.P. McKeown, Federal Court of Canada (Trial Division) in 2000-2001. She has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, as well as the British Columbia Supreme Court, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Canada. Julie has also been involved in matters before the Alberta Utilities Commission, the British Columbia Utilities Commission and the former Alberta Energy and Utilities Board.
